When you are a work at home mom with kids it is sometimes hard to get any work done .
You need to start telling them when they are young that you work like other people , you just stay at home and do it. They understand that mom works at home and dad works out of the home. They will most likely not interrupt you at work, because they can easily understand the idea of it being an actual job.
Make sure you set time aside to be with your kids. Divide your time up into times when you can do some of your work when the kids are around , Like crafts, but make sure your kids know the times not to bother you, like when you are writing.
Set goals with your kids. For example - If they are wanting to do something with you - tell them that you cannot stop what you are doing until you get 2 wreaths made, or 5 pages written , or something else concrete ! They can deal with that better than just saying leave me alone or just a minute. When my son was little I would tell him just a minute and he would stand at the door and count to 60!! He did not bother me when I told him what I was doing and my goal!
You could even use a timer . Set it for like 30 minutes and then your kids know that when that timer goes off they will have your full attention.
All of these tips help me and they should help you.

So You want to go from being a stay at home mom to being a work at home mom. Moms are pulled in many directions. There are kids, the husband, the household, and so much more. It never seems like it all gets done. To make the flip to also being a work at home mom, you need to have great time management and organization skills. This will ensure that you get everything done and still have time for your family.
Use these tips to help you find the balance to become a better mom and work at home mom:
1. Use a calendar. You will stay organized and keep track of home, school, and your work schedule with just one calendar. Having a calendar hanging in a certain place , like a kitchen, where the whole family can see it lets them know your schedule also. That way when you are working they also know it and know not to bother you. I also find that it is good to have an agenda that I can keep in my handbag so that it is with me all of the time.
2. Know when to ask for help. Let your family know if you need them to maybe help you a little bit more with housework. You might be having a busy week “at work” because of holiday or taxes.
3. Do not hold on to guilt that you might have because you are “working”. You cannot do everything. You might have to ask for help. You have to remember that what you are trying to do by starting your own home based business is for your family. Do not overextend yourself though.
4. When you are not working , spend your time with your family wisely. Do not plop down in front of the tv. Go for a walk, play a game, or something else where you are really connecting with your family.
5. Set dates on your calendar for spending time with your family and on your self. Do not let your home based business dominate your life.
6. Change things when you need to. Talk it over with your family if you are needing to change your schedule. You might have found out that you can get more done with your home based business on a certain day or time and then that will leave more time for you to be spending with family and the house.
7. Be a flexible as you can be. Leave room for change and growth. Your family is growing at the same time as your home based business. With this comes many changes that will be exciting, frustrating, and very challenging. Stay open to all of the changes.
8. Do what is best for your family and you. Don’t allow your home based business dictate what happens in your life. Don’t let long hours working keep you from spending time with your family.
With these tips and ones that you already do you should be able to find the balance of being a stay at home AND work at home mom. All it takes is planning, flexibility, and a positive attitude. You can do it if you set your mind to it. Just make sure you are always letting your family know what you are doing and why you are doing it.

One of the best ways to get organized and save time is to make
a “to-do” list.
Try not to leave anything out. List everything from the most
Important to the least important.
When you get finished writing out your list do not feel overwhelmed.
Go over the list and select the most important things that need to be
Done. Like calling important customers, ordering supplies, etc.
Make sure you write down next to these when you need to have them
Done. Is there anything on the list that you could delegate to
Someone else to do for you?
When you business prospers you might have to hire employees to
Do the work that you no longer have the time to do. Many small
Business people think that they are the only ones that can do stuff.
That could be your downfall.
Over time you might find that the items on your list are not as
Important. They can be put off until another time.
You do need to be able to decide when something is a priority.
Like going to talk to an important client about a problem.
Put your list somewhere that you are sure not to miss it or get
Lost in your paper work.
If you follow your “to-do” list than you should save a lot of time
Because you are getting everything done . When stuff gets put
Off than it will slow you down trying to catch up.

Any work-at-home-mom will confess that owing her own business is as challenging as it gets. While the rewards are bountiful, the word easy is not one used to describe small business ownership.
Many moms who work out of their home also have to multitask tending to the needs of their small children. In fact the reason many parents choose to work at home is so they can be available to care for the kids. Keeping up with household maintenance and child rearing is a full time job. So how does one find time for her business?
The answer to that is simple. You don’t find time; you make time. Okay the part about making time may not be that simple, but it is very much doable. The most important factor in making time is your mind set. Remember RYBLAB - Run Your Business Like a Business. Assuming we’re talking about a bona fide business and not just a little something you do periodically to earn a little extra cash, then it’s important to manage your time.
The mom business owner who has an infant or toddler will need to manage her time much differently than one who has school aged children. For those who are also caring for an infant, take advantage of the times when baby is sleeping. Just don’t forget to get a few hours of sleep yourself!
Toddlers are a little more challenging as they are very busy little people. Set up a desk for your little one near your computer. While mommy is working, your toddler can color or work on simple crafts. Or set up a small corner near you with some favorite toys.
Business owner parents who have children in school all day know they have a window of approximately six hours to get as much done as humanly possible without interruptions of parental tasks. The key is to take full advantage of any time you have to yourself or at least without a child needing your undivided attention.
Don’t try to find the time - you’ll run yourself ragged trying to find something that isn’t there. You need to make the time. If you fail to plan, you can plan to fail. Just as married couples should schedule dates on a regular basis, small business owners need to schedule work time and stick with it!
You can do it!

10. Pick one task that MUST get done and accomplish it First!
Be sure this is not a multi step task such as submit my advertisement to 100 sites, that could take all day. You want this one task to be something accomplished immediately so when the day falls off track due to your toddler helping themselves to the permanent markers, you know you’ve gotten something productive done in your business.
9. Take a 10 minute break EVERY hour.
You wouldn’t believe how happy your kids will be when you take 10 minutes to fully devote to them. Set up a new game or activity, color, play tag. Get them on a roll. Your next 50 minutes of working will be filled with laughter.
8. Make snacks FUN!
Nobody likes graham crackers in a bowl everyday. A little effort into snacks can bring smiles. How about strawberries cut on a plate, cool whip with drizzled chocolate syrup. Takes less than 5 minutes and your children will WANT to sit at the table.
7. Use the Crockpot.
During morning snack time, while the kids are at the table with their fancy snack. Throw some meat in the crockpot, add some spices, put the veggies on the table or in the crock. Dinner will be ready in 15 minutes after your long day working at home.
6. Let’s get Physical.
Don’t forget kids have a ton of energy and you need to help them use it up. During your 10 minute breaks, be sure at least 3 of those are physically tiring activities. Besides you’ll get your 30 minutes of exercise in for the day!
5. Use a Timer.
This is both for you and the kids. A large kitchen timer that counts down 50 minutes at a time. Even the littlest of toddlers will recognize the beep and realize it’s Mommy time! You can set it again for 10 minutes which will remind you and your children its time for Mommy’s work. This will keep your day flowing without losing track.
4. Take One day OFF a week.
Places such as museums and zoos are less crowded during the week. Take the day off, pack the kids a lunch and GO! You’ll be refreshed and more productive the next day. You won’t believe how many new ideas you can come up with when you walk away from the computer for more than a minute. Plus, your kids will probably go to bed early from the outing, you’ll be able to check your emails in peace.
3. Don’t forget your Friends.
We have many different roles to play once we become Mommy. Most of the time we forget to be a friend to our peers. Not just our other Mommy friends that we met because of our kids, but the friends that we don’t talk to all the time or make playdates with. Call the friend that you only see once and a while. Have lunch and an adult conversation.
2. Take Time for Yourself
It’s o.k. to read a book that doesn’t talk about marketing strategies. Spend 10 extra minutes in the shower and actually dry off before you get dressed. Instead of making everyone’s favorite dinner, order out your favorite meal. You’ll be a better person to everyone when you take time for yourself.
1. Remember why You Choose To Stay Home!
When your frustration level is increasing, you can’t get anything done, your toddler just hit delete on the article you were writing and the dog is barking….enjoy it. This is why you are home. Step away from your work, take a deep breath, take time to get the house rythym back and then worry about work. You’re home to love your kids when they need it most, take advantage of the opportunity to handle challenging times, this is why you’re a WAHM!

Is that a thing that you have not done in a while?? I know I have not ,but it is something that we all need to do every once in a while. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and I spent the day working and it dawned on me last night while I was TRYING to go to sleep - that I never get to relax. To remain productive when we do work we need to relax. Being in a creative work field ,and for others who work at home , we need to relax so we can get our creative juices flowing. If you have writer’s (or blogger’s) block than relax for a while and get away from the keyboard. The creative sparks usually ignites at unexpected moments , when we are relaxed and feeling no pressure.
