Getting Work Done At Home

When you are a work at home mom with kids it is sometimes hard to get any work done .
You need to start telling them when they are young that you work like other people , you just stay at home and do it. They understand that mom works at home and dad works out of the home. They will most likely not interrupt you at work, because they can easily understand the idea of it being an actual job.
Make sure you set time aside to be with your kids. Divide your time up into times when you can do some of your work when the kids are around , Like crafts, but make sure your kids know the times not to bother you, like when you are writing.
Set goals with your kids. For example - If they are wanting to do something with you - tell them that you cannot stop what you are doing until you get 2 wreaths made, or 5 pages written , or something else concrete ! They can deal with that better than just saying leave me alone or just a minute. When my son was little I would tell him just a minute and he would stand at the door and count to 60!! He did not bother me when I told him what I was doing and my goal!
You could even use a timer . Set it for like 30 minutes and then your kids know that when that timer goes off they will have your full attention.
All of these tips help me and they should help you.

A Typical Day In MY Life ~ A WAHM~

What is the day of a work at home mom like? I will just write a little bit about what my typical day is like.
I usually get up at about 3 a.m. so that I can get about 3 hours of writing(blogging) done before I have to wake my 2 teens up to get ready for school, I make them their breakfast and help them with whatever, My 17 month old son usually wakes up at about this time, too. So , I also have to get him all ready for his day. My teens leave at 7:45 and me and my little one usually watch disney, pbs, or nick jr. He plays around my feet as I do dishes and clean the house. He takes his nap at around 11 or 12 and then I can get some more work done! When he wakes up I get supper decided on and if I have to I start it. My teens get home from school at 3:30 and if I do not have to run my son around to one of his practices, we are home and I have them supper and than I get to relax for the evening and I get to bed at the same time as my little one at around 9 p.m. then I wake up at 3a.m. and it starts all over!!
My days are usually pretty much the same everyday, unless I have appointments, practices, laundry, shopping, or whatever that I need to do. MY husband is a truck driver who is usually gone on long hauls , so I have the time and the house all to myself to get a lot of work done. I love it and would not change a thing about it. This is a choice that I made about 10 years ago and do not regret it at all.

As They Grow Older…..

What do us work at home parents do when our easy to manage little ones get older? I am going through this right now! My little one is now almost 17 months old and is all over the house! I do most of my work when he takes a nap, but find that that is sometimes not enough time. Most days I get up VERY early so I can get my email checked, some writing done, and some other things. Plus I still have 2 teenagers that I have to take care of, cooking, household chores, etc.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP UP WITH WORK AND KEEP UP WITH LITTLE ONES??

Are You Scared?

Are you a mom who is wanting to become a work at home mom ,but are scared? One of the worst things that is holding back a lot of moms is fear. You might have a genuine fear of failing or you might even have a fear of success. Both of these will hold you back from being all that you can be. You need to ask yourself some serious questions before you move forward in your dream of having a home based business:
What is the worst thing that could happen if I do fail?

What is the worst thing that could happen if I am successful?

Can I live with either one of these outcomes?

If you find out that you could live with either one of these outcomes, you have got to make the choice right now to not let fear stop you from achieving your dreams. You have got to let your greatness shine through and get out there and start working towards your goal of having a home based business.

Be A Balanced Mom

So You want to go from being a stay at home mom to being a work at home mom. Moms are pulled in many directions. There are kids, the husband, the household, and so much more. It never seems like it all gets done. To make the flip to also being a work at home mom, you need to have great time management and organization skills. This will ensure that you get everything done and still have time for your family.
Use these tips to help you find the balance to become a better mom and work at home mom:
1. Use a calendar. You will stay organized and keep track of home, school, and your work schedule with just one calendar. Having a calendar hanging in a certain place , like a kitchen, where the whole family can see it lets them know your schedule also. That way when you are working they also know it and know not to bother you. I also find that it is good to have an agenda that I can keep in my handbag so that it is with me all of the time.
2. Know when to ask for help. Let your family know if you need them to maybe help you a little bit more with housework. You might be having a busy week “at work” because of holiday or taxes.
3. Do not hold on to guilt that you might have because you are “working”. You cannot do everything. You might have to ask for help. You have to remember that what you are trying to do by starting your own home based business is for your family. Do not overextend yourself though.
4. When you are not working , spend your time with your family wisely. Do not plop down in front of the tv. Go for a walk, play a game, or something else where you are really connecting with your family.
5. Set dates on your calendar for spending time with your family and on your self. Do not let your home based business dominate your life.
6. Change things when you need to. Talk it over with your family if you are needing to change your schedule. You might have found out that you can get more done with your home based business on a certain day or time and then that will leave more time for you to be spending with family and the house.
7. Be a flexible as you can be. Leave room for change and growth. Your family is growing at the same time as your home based business. With this comes many changes that will be exciting, frustrating, and very challenging. Stay open to all of the changes.
8. Do what is best for your family and you. Don’t allow your home based business dictate what happens in your life. Don’t let long hours working keep you from spending time with your family.

With these tips and ones that you already do you should be able to find the balance of being a stay at home AND work at home mom. All it takes is planning, flexibility, and a positive attitude. You can do it if you set your mind to it. Just make sure you are always letting your family know what you are doing and why you are doing it.

What do Your Kids Do While You Work at Home?

If you work at home and have kids than you are probably in the same shape as me. Trying to find ways to keep them entertained and busy while you try to work. During the winter months my older kids are in school, but I still have a little one at home.

If you have small kids you can do like I do , and have the office in the same room as their play room. This will only be like this for a while . This really helps both of us. Now that he is 1 year old he loves me being there and I can work away. He just like the thought of me being in the same room as him while he plays.
If you have toddlers and older kids you might try some of these ideas :

Set them up a art/craft area. Make sure it is where a mess will not matter and that it is safe. Keep alot a coloring books around.

Check out yard sales and thrift stores for cheap toys. So they always have something different to play with.

When my daughter was little I set her up a “dressing room” in her bedroom and had alot of yard sale clothes and jewelry etc . She would play dress-up for hours!

Set them up a table with a challenging puzzle.

Keep educational and kids movies on hand for them to watch.

With older kids you can allow them to play video games. My son is 14 and plays some video games. He has found the internet to be more fun, so we have to fight over who can get on and when.

You might want to check out summer camps and Vacation Bible School. This might give you a few hours a day to get some work done. It usually does not last too many weeks ,but you could schedule some of your very important stuff that needs done for that week of the camp.

If you use your noggin and think like a kid than you should be able to keep them entertained for a while so you can get some work done at home. Making the decision to work at home is a family affair ,but you should not neglet your family to do it. If your family sees that it will not take any time from them and that you still care about what they are doing while you work than everything should fall into place. You will soon be on your way to a successful home based business.

For successful home based business, online websites are the best source of effective business solutions. You can keep your skills up to date and can now easily earn money home by using online resources. Internet is the best source to materialize your skills while youíre staying home. Different online home business e.g. consultancy are getting common among households. The self-employed moms are required to have some entertainment stuff for their kids, especially if they desired to do work at home. Proper time management is the key to success for your home business.

You learn something new every day!

I learned something this weekend from my neighbors little girl. I had a yard sale Thursday - Saturday and Friday and Saturday my neighbors little girl had a lemonade stand set up out in their front yard the same time as my yard sale. Watching her got me to thinking about how great her little business mind is already at the age of 8! She took advantage of the situation. She knew that I would be having a lot of people coming to my yard sale and they would most likely go to her stand. Which they did. Some even went 2 times. I think that she most likely made more money than me. One other thing I noticed was that she was having a ton of fun! I think that when us adults have our small businesses we soon forget how to have fun with it. If we would stop for a while and watch some kids and take a break to have some fun , our business would do a lot better. I also noticed that she was selling her cups of lemonade for $1.00 a cup. Not real big cups either. She had it marked , for what I thought was high, but because she marked it like that everyone thought it was worth more and paid it. I even bought a couple. So maybe the next time you see a little kid setting up a lemonade stand ,you should think about what they are doing and how they are succeeding with their “business”! Use some of that knowledge that used to come to us naturally ,but stress and other of out lives duties got in the way. I remember when I was little that it seemed like every day I was coming up with a new “business”. I sold rocks, koolaid, lemonaid, stickers, candy, and any other thing I could think of. I used to talk my mom into buying huge bags of candy and I would take it to school and sell it for 50 cents each piece!! Why can we not have the same fun when we are adults??

Kids want to blog also !!!

My kids watch me blog all of the time and they decided they want to blog also. I use the word kids lightly because one is 18 and the other is 14!! I do have a 9 month old ,but I expect it will be a few years before he will want his own blog!

My son(14) started a blog a while ago about his interest in the dark ages and medevil times. He is a history buff and has plans to be a history teacher. His blog ,Dark Ages , has info about historical figures and places from that time in history. He has not wrote on it for a while, though and is in the process of researching some new stuff that he is wanting to write about.

My daughter(18) started her blog just this morning and it looks like it is going to be an awesome blog. It is about her love for fashion, writing , and more. Her Blog, Dress-Up Isn’t Just For Little Girls Anymore, is new ,but I can see where it will be going and it looks like it will go far. We will see.

They of course will most likely be wanting to try and make money from their blogs. Which would be cool. My daughter will be leaving for college in a year. My son has a few years to worry about college ,but why not start saving now.

WAHM Cleaning & Organizing Advice

If you are like me and are a work at home mom than you know how hard it is to keep your house clean and work out of it. My house seems like it is just full of clutter . So my one piece of advice is to tackle small projects each day. One day I will do the kitchen , the next the living room, one day is laundry, and so on. I dust and vaccuum every other day. Make sure you wipe down the bathroom everyday so that it is easier to deep clean. Do beds every saturday morning because my kids can help. I set aside one day a week just for organizing. We have a coat rack by the back door so we alwyas know where out coats are. There is a huge basket there also for bookbags. Kids have a certain place by the microwave where all of their school papers go that we need to see or sign. Each kid has their own laundry hamper in their room. I usually am not as busy in the winter as I am in the spring and summer. Because I have a huge garden I also tend to in the spring and summer. So I will have to set time aside for that. But my kids are home in the summer and help with that. My work stuff is kept totally away from the rest of the house. If you plan and set goals you should be able to keep your house clean and organized and still get work done !
